Beyond Diet and Exercise – Mind Body Spirit

What do you think of when you think of being healthy? I think most of us, especially in the United States think about diet and exercise as the way to become healthy. What we are missing out on is the mental and spiritual health that we should also be focusing on.
I have found that it is vital to balance the body, the mind and the spirit in order to truly achieve ultimate health. I find that when I only focus on one aspect the other two become imbalanced.
So what are ways to build up the mind and spirit? As far as the mind goes… reading good books and seeking additional wisdom and knowledge is a must. We should always be learning and exercising our mind.
The spirit is strengthened when we read holy scriptures, pray and meditate. It is vital that we do these things daily. In my opinion they are of even greater importance than the physical because the mind and the spirit are the only ones we will keep after we’ve passed on from this life.
That being said, we do still need to focus on the physical body, but not for vanity. It is our vessel and allows us to do God’s work on earth. We need it in order to be strengthened and to have the energy to accomplish the things we need to do for our life’s mission.
As you go through your day today remember that your physical health is only one aspect out of three and be sure to balance them all so you can be as healthy as possible.
